Position Overview
Prestige CM is seeking one or two experienced Electrical and Mechanical Cost Estimators (Part-Time) to support ongoing infrastructure and capital improvement projects.
The ideal candidates will have extensive experience preparing detailed cost estimates at all phases of design, including Conceptual, 35%, 50%, 90%, and 100% Construction Documents (CD). This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to confidently present estimates to clients and Engineers of Record.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed electrical and/or mechanical cost estimates across all design phases (Conceptual through 100% CD)
- Perform quantity take-offs and develop accurate cost models for labor, materials, and equipment
- Review and analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents
- Develop and maintain cost databases, unit pricing, and benchmarks
- Coordinate with design teams, engineers, and project stakeholders
- Identify scope gaps, risks, and cost drivers; provide value engineering recommendations
- Present estimates clearly and professionally to clients, project teams, and Engineers of Record
- Support reconciliation of estimates with designers and third-party estimators
- Participate in meetings and workshops as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in construction cost estimating
- Proven experience preparing estimates at multiple design stages (Conceptual to 100% CD)
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost drivers
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with public agency and infrastructure projects (water/wastewater preferred)
- Proficiency in estimating tools and software (e.g., Bluebeam, Excel, Cost estimating platforms)
- Experience presenting estimates to clients and Engineers of Record
- Professional certifications or licenses (PE or related) are a plus
Work Environment
- Hybrid or in-person (San Francisco or Los Angeles offices)
- Part-time, flexible schedule based on project needs
- Occasional meetings or site visits as required
